PEAKfresh® Environmental Advantages
At PEAKfresh®, we’re doing our part to help the environment by giving our customers the best in fresh produce preservation free of “gassing” methods that harm the environment.
Gassing is a 40-year old technology. This method relies on injecting high levels of carbon dioxide into pallet covers, sealing fresh produce in the gas during shipping. Once the pallets arrive at their destination, the cover is removed, emitting carbon dioxide into the air.
PEAKfresh® pallet covers are a modern solution created in 1992. Made with a natural occurring mineral that significantly increases permeability, PEAKfresh® doesn’t require any gassing whatsoever. And unlike carbon dioxide-filled gassed packaging, PEAKfresh® covers can be removed to inspect the product upon arrival, then reinstalled to provide further protection – giving customers even more value for their dollar.
In 1999, the well-respected researchers at UC Davis’ Department of Pomology tested PEAKfresh® in comparison to the gassing process. The results validated that PEAKfresh® works just as effectively PEAKfresh® to protect millions of dollars in fragile produce each year.
With PEAKfresh®, our customers can feel good not only knowing that their produce is safe in our hands, but that they’re doing their part to reduce their overall carbon foot print.
