It is possible to store peaches and nectarines from two to four weeks with very careful post harvest treatment and attention to temperature control. A side affect of long term storage is loss of fl avour and texture. Peaches suffer from decay forming brown rot and both fruits are susceptible to shrivelling. There are a number of proprietary dips available that help control surface bacteria.
Packaging Method:
Peakfresh carton liners are used for the packaging of peaches with careful attention to post harvest treatment and strict temperature control. Where good temperature cannot be maintained we recommend that sheets of Peakfresh be placed in the bottom of a box where fruit is bulk stored and a further sheet of Peakfresh across the top of the fruit in the box. Where preformed plastic trays are used or similar product, then we recommend the use of a precut sheet of Peakfresh film across the top of the fruit. This has the benefit of maintaining humidity levels and a degree of protection against ethylene damage.
Recommended Post Harvest Temperatures:
OºC (32ºF) and 90-95% humidity.
